Eindhoven is aiming to attract more top sport events. To do so the municipality, regional trade and industry and sport organizations have come to an agreement.
The agreement concerns hockey, swimming and urban sports and disabled sports. In those categories top events should be brought to the City of Eindhoven, such as Euro Hockey League, the World Cup Swimming and the World Cup Disabled Swimming. For urban sports this could be the World Cup Skateboarding.
To be able to attract such events, funding will be made available. The municipality of Eindhoven will make 350,000 euros available. The funds will come from tourism levies. The province wants to double the amount, whereas regional trade and industry will contribute a further 200,000 euros.
Alderman Depla is very happy with the agreement, as it will revitalize the enjoyment of sports in general. In addition it will improve the investment climate and the general image of the city of Eindhoven if there are more top sport events held in the city. He does wants to ensure that the amateur sportsman or sportswoman is also included in these top sports events, similarly to what happens during the Eindhoven Marathon.
Alderman Depla is of the opinion that the extra investment will result in a boost to the local economy as persons will spend additional money during these large events.
