Eindhoven Municipal Council feels it is too early to make any claim against FIFA, the International Federation of Football Association. The municipality paid no less than 1.5 million euros to host the World Championship in the city in 2018. However, the football tournament was awarded to Russia, and it is possible that the process was not entirely honest.
The competition to be allowed to host the 2018 World Championship was fought between the Netherlands, England, Russia and the combination Spain-Portugal. Eindhoven could have been one of the match cities.
In answer to a number of questions by the socialist PvdA party, the mayor and aldermen have stated in an RIB (informative letter to the council members) that it is too early to submit a claim. Although there are suspicions of an unfair process, there is no judicial evidence.
