Wild cat seen on Strabrechtse Heide

For the first time since the Middle Ages a wild cat surfaced in Brabant. On the Strabrechtse Heide a wild cat was seen on a camera by the Forestry department.

Felis Silvestris is the name of the animal in Latin. Peter van Stiphout of the Forestry Commission could not believe his eyes when he looked at the images: ”They have a large territory, but I never dreamed that he would reach Brabant.”

In 2004 already there was a wild cat seen in Heeze. In retrospect, however, it appeared to have been abducted from abroad by someone after a holiday.

The wild cat is not dangerous and eats mainly birds, rabbits and amphibians. Where the cat came from is not known yet.
