Eindhoven NTS-Group is going to build a new robot which can remove paint from aircrafts. The robot needs to be finished in 2016. For the project NTS is working together with the ‘Nationaal Lucht- en Ruimtevaartlaboratorium’ (national aerospace laboratory).
Under the name ‘Laser Coating removal Robot’ (LCR), the collaborating companies are working on environment friendly stripping of aircraft. The robot must be able to strip aircraft cheaper and easier. By means of a carbon dioxide laser the LCR burns off paint layers of plane walls.
The LCR will be costing 9 million euros and is largely subsidised by the State of the Netherlands. The robot should be put into service within two years.
