Jeweller Willy S., 54 years old, is being prosecuted for unlawful possession of a firearm, prosecutor Bart Nieuwenhuizen announced at a press conference today. The jeweller’s wife will not be prosecuted for killing the two robbers.
‘We unanimously decided that it was self-defence; it was a legitimate act,’ Bart Nieuwenhuizen said.
With the illegal firearm two robbers were killed in March. One of the robbers was an Eindhoven resident and his killing caused a commotion among the Moroccan community.
The couple was arrested for murder, but released a day later because it was obvious they acted in self-defence.
The oldest robber Youssef F. (29) pulled out a gun, whereas the youngest robber Abdel H. (20) started using his pepper spray. Jeweller Willy tried to take the weapon away, but he was kicked and beaten. His wife feared for her husband’s life and grabbed a weapon he had purchased after a previous robbery.
