EINDHOVEN – 27 people were wounded in an accident involving a public transport bus and a truck in Eindhoven on Tuesday morning. Six people were bought to the hospital by ambulance. No one was seriously wounded.
The collision occurred at the intersection of the bus lane on Torenallee in Eindhoven’s Strijp-S at approximately 09:30 hrs.
The truck crossed the bus lane according to bystanders, hitting the bus in the left rear. After that, the bus collided against a traffic light and stopped 10 meters further up.The Hermes bus was heavily damaged. On both sides a number of windows burst. There was glass on the road, as well as parts of the truck’s bumper.Slightly wounded passengers were treated on the spot and accommodated in the nearby old Appliance Factory. Afterwards, they were taken to a Hermes building by bus.Both the 57-year-old bus driver from Geldrop and the 59-year-old truck driver from Heerlen were unharmed.In total, there were 45 passengers on the bus. The truck, from the company Praxair, transported gas cylinders. The fire department checked these after the accident but there was no damage to them.The intersection with the bus lane on Strijp-S is protected by a flashing warning light and audio signals. It is unclear if these were functioning at the time of the accident and how the accident occurred. In any case, it seems that the truck did not yield to the bus.Source: Omroep Brabant
