Don’t invest in bubbles but in whisky

EINDHOVEN – If you want to make a lot of money, invest in whiskey. The price of the better quality whiskies has risen by 400% over the past four years. There isn’t a bank, bearer bond or share that can compete with this.

Whisky connaisseur and seller, Gérard van der Heijden, has a shop in Kruisstraat, Eindhoven. At the start of June he sold bottles for 69.95 Euros. Now he can get 170 Euros for them. That is because he is selling them via whiskey auctions on line. The most expensive bottle of whiskey is being sold for 55.000 Euros on the auction site ‘worldwhiskyindex.com’. A bid of 47.500 Euros has already been made. Van der Heijden: “You can’t just take any bottle of whiskey, it is the special editions or reserves that are being auctioned off. “The extreme rise of 400% is because of the steep increase in demand, according to Van der Heijden. “There is a lot of demand coming from outside Europe, from China, India and Russia. The conditions there are improving, a lot of rich people live there.”Source: Omroep Brabant
