These books can teach kids about local history

A series of children’s books about Eindhoven’s history has been created.

There are three books for children in upper primary school. Stories about three iconic spots in Eindhoven: the Klokgebouw, the TU/e and the Parktheater. These are made-up stories based on the history of the three places in the city. “We did not have history books for children about Eindhoven. At least not written in this playful way”, Sandra Bosch, of Bookbase Publishing House, says.

Three stories
The series ‘Hier & Toen’ (‘Here & Then’) features a story about the TU/e. It takes place in the ’60s as the campus is being built. The booklet on the Klokgebouw is set in the Second World War during the Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) bombardment. And the story about the Parktheater is about a series of accidents with artists in the ’70s. All the books contain text and matching illustrations.

Eindhoven project
The works are written by authors residing in Eindhoven: Suzanne Wouda (Klokgebouw), Linda Amendt (Parktheater) and Bianca Mastenbroek (TU/e). The latter even studied at this university. “Funny that I now know much more about ‘my school’ than back then. I was mainly occupied with my studies at the time”, she says.

On Sunday, 4 November, the children’s book series will be presented in the Boekenberg in Eindhoven. The books are in stores already.
