Torchlight procession for peace

December 24, 2018 @ 18:00 - 21:00

€2,50

A torchlight procession for peace and tolerance will be held again in Eindhoven this Christmas Eve, 24 December 24.

The Fakkeltocht, or torchlight procession, is a long-established part of the Christmas season for many people in and around Eindhoven. Through this activity, the city wants to show that people are willing to commit themselves to a society in which tolerance and respect are all-important.

You can get your coins and torches from 18:00 hrs at Wilhelminaplein. These coins valued at €2,50 can be bought at various outlets and on the evening. One of these coins is then used to purchase a torch.

At 19:00, the first torch will be set ablaze, which will mark the start of the procession. Not only will thousands of flames be lit; residents along the route will also express their solidarity by placing candles in their windows.

As usual, the square will be filled with stalls offering hot beverages and snacks. Other activities will take place along the route, and all are welcome to join in.

There will be a service held at 18:00 at Catharina Church before the procession starts as well as a special non-denominational children’s Christmas service at the Student Church at 6 Kanaalstraat. Afterward, at 20:00, people can visit the Fatih mosque, and there will be another non-denominational Christmas service. This will again be at the Student Church and starts at 22:00.

For safety’s sake, please do not wear synthetic clothing during the procession.
