RAISING Multilingual children

January 19, 2020 @ 14:00 - 16:00

€5.00

International families have some particular challenges. One of them is raising multilingual children. Mums & Toddlers in Eindhoven (the expat community) brings you two experts on the subject, Dr. Irem Bezcioğlu and Joie Yen.

Dr. Irem Bezcioğlu is an expert on multilingual education, and a project coordinator at SECMO-Foundation for education, culture and migration research. She worked as a language teacher for years, and completed her PhD at Tilburg University, focusing on family language strategies among immigrant families in the Netherlands. She investigated how parental beliefs, family language practices and societal expectations impact children’s multilingual development and school achievement. She will share the findings of her research and provide tips on successful family language practices.

Joie Yen is a mom of a multilingual boy and the owner of ENJOY studio. She will share scientific research about early language acquisition and her own experience of raising a trilingual child. She will also introduce Chameleon Reader, a reading pen that can turn any of your regular books to audiobooks. Her background is biology and innovation management. She was a UX researcher in Acer for year

MUMS & TODDLERS in EINDHOVEN is an international group of mums and children who meet every other Wednesday for a playgroup for children, ages 0-4. They strive to have fun, while supporting each other in the rewarding, but sometimes challenging task of raising children. To meet this goal, they organize meetings and activities throughout each month, giving all their members the opportunity to grow and learn as parents and build lasting friendships.
