Art of Integration
November 11, 2016 @ 00:00 - December 18, 2016 @ 00:00
FreeWhat comes to your mind when you see the word ‘refugee’? What kind of person do you think about? Refugee is not an identity, it is a situation, the organisers say.
With the exhibition Nomads, Art of Integration goes beyond the state of new Dutch to see each other in the first place as human beings.
Through photos, videos and images, participants from different countries and cultures present their own stories and seek for collaboration. With pictures of Shafiq Omar Kakar (AF) and Mahmod Kh (SY), video portraits by Jesse van Venrooij (NL) and a work-in-progress by Malina Suliman (AF) and Marcel de Buck (NL).
Nomads also presents Gedeelde Levens | Shared lives, a project by Nanne op ‘t Ende (NL), who asked refugees to share photos on their phone: happy memories of their lives before they came to the Netherlands.
The exhibition Nomads is part of Art of Integration, a project in Tilburg and Eindhoven about the role art can play in the integration of refugees and about increasing support.
In this context there is an exposition at the bkkc in Tilburg (until November 27), a film project of Inge and Martin Riebeek and a documentary-afternoon in TAC organized by DOCfeed.
Art of Integration is sustained by bkkc (Brabant knowledge centre of art and culture), TAC (Temporay Art Centre Eindhoven), Stichting Nieuwkomers (new arrivals foundation) and Vluchtelingenwerk Brabant-Centraal (refugees Brabant-Central) and the VanAbbemuseum.
