Come and learn about the Dutch schools in Meerhoven

More likely than not, the number one issue for parents moving to a new country is finding a school for their child that fits best their child and family’s needs.

It can become very stressful to learn about the new educational system and regulations and local habits. Not to mention practicalities related to an ordinary school day and, of course, the language issue. This is why Meerhoven Internationals Platform is organising an Education Event on Saturday, 23 June, between 09:30 and 12:30.

They are doing this in cooperation with local schools and kindergarten. The purpose of the event is to provide information about the Dutch educational system and childcare to international parents living in the Meerhoven area. During the event representatives of Meerhoven primary schools, ‘t Slingertouw, Startbaan, and the Korein Kinderplein nursery school will all hold presentations in English about their child-care and child education facilities. There will then be an opportunity for questions.

Korein Kinderplein has very generously agreed to provide free childcare during the whole event for those who will bring their children along. If you would like to attend, please register with the Meerhoven Internationals Platform on their facebook page or by emailing internationals@meerhoven.nl.

The venue still has to be determined.

Park Hilaria takes place from Friday 3 to Sunday 12 August. The funfair opens every day at 12.00 and lasts until 00.30, except on Sundays. Then the fair closes at midnight.

Put on old clothes and head for Dierenrijk at Nuenen, this weekend.

  • throw toilet brushes as far as you can;
  • take part in similar challenges.

All you need to do? Get your truly, really, absolutely oldest outfit ready. Then convince your parents you simply must visit Dierenrijk at Nuenen this weekend.

From 13 till 15 July, children can have fun participating in “dirty” activities at Dierenrijk. Children will also learn more about various animals, like which poo belongs to which animal. Or learn everything there is to know about digestive systems.

Dierenrijk advises parents, grand-parents and accompanying adults to make sure children put on old clothes.

A “children’s laundry” will be provided. Here children can be turned presentable again, before entering family cars to be driven home.

The “Viespeukdagen” take place this weekend at Dierenrijk Nuenen, from 13-15 July. Dierenrijk is situated along the Baroniehei, Nuenen.

– Café Dommel 18: Dommelstraat 18, 5611 CK Eindhoven

– Eetcafé Publiek: Markt 20, 5611 EC Eindhoven

On Sunday, the other runners will participate in the relay race, the mini-marathon, and the full marathon of just over 42 kilometers.

On Saturday, there will also be a walking event. This event includes the 5KM4All, which also allows people with disabilities to participate. On Saturday night 3 000 runners will run 10km by night.

On Sunday, the Kenyan Kirwa and Ethiopians Assefa and Robi are considered favourites.

The marathon will cause a hindrance because of the many roadblocks. Here, drivers can see what to expect. Many buses will not be riding either. Until 13:00 the buses n the lines 8, 11, 14, 18, 19, 317, 318, 319, 402 and 403 will not ride on the motorways. They will only stop at stops within the ring. Winter festival at the Grote Beek

0

At the De Grote Beek estate, a so-called Winter Festival will start on Tuesday.

There is a pop-up restaurant in a large barn. The proceeds are for a good cause: animals in healthcare.

Aside the large American barn, there will also be a living nativity scene. Santa Claus will also show his face from time to time. It will be possible to have lunch and dinner and the proceeds will go to Dieren in de Zorg of the GGzE (mental healthcare).

In the treatment of clients it sometimes helps to use animals, says the healthcare institution. Such treatments are often not reimbursed, that’s the reason money will be raised for this.

Christmas baubles for and by children with cancer at St. Anna Hospital in Geldrop

0

A wall full of Christmas balls drawn by children with cancer: at the St. Anna Hospital in Geldrop there is such a wall since Monday.

Drawings
The Christmas baubles come from residents of Geldrop and surroundings. They have handed in old Christmas baubles at garden center GroenRijk and bought KiKa Christmas baubles. There are drawings on the Christmas baubles made by four children with cancer. A few pupils of the Eenbes elementary school Sint Jozef have helped set up the wall and then presented it to Ingrid Wolf, chairman of the board of directors.

The proceeds of the purchased Christmas baubles at GroenRijk go to the charity. The garden center together with other centers aim to collect 250,000 euros.

Carnival: large mirror tent

0

It has been discussed for years. Carnival 2019 it will finally happen. A large mirror tent will be built at Eindhoven’s Wilhelminaplein.

Inside this large tent, the most important thing will be the creation of an authentic, old-fashioned carnival feeling. Nostalgic party music will help! “Carnivals without that commercial carnival and house music, but instead with bands and karaoke”, mentions one of the organisers, Joep Verheijen.

The organisers respond to a need for carnival parties among “older youngsters”. However, this does specifically not mean, “only the over-forties carnival enthusiasts are welcome. In this large tent, everybody is welcome to join in the fun or to just have a nice chat”.

Carnival in “Lampegat”

In Lampegat (Eindhoven) carnival kicks off Friday 1st of March and ends Tuesday 5th of March 2019. Preliminary festivities already started with “Lampegats Dansmarietje Toernooi” on 20th of January.

Other preliminary activities, not all of which are open to all or for which special tickets need to be obtained:

10 February: Lampegatse Vrouwkes Zitting
17 February: Haone Boerenblaos Festijn
21 February: Federatieavond
22 February: Slaatjesbal
23 February: Prince Positivo visit
23 February: Groot Federatiebal
28 February: Pekske Pronken

One of the most important Carnival events in Lampegat will be the traditional parade of floats, scheduled for Saturday 2nd of March 2019.
