Eindhoven shops will be allowed to stay open later on Sundays and holidays, a city council majority decided on Tuesday.
The new opening times will be the same as other days, meaning retail outlets can open from 06:00 until 22:00.
A large majority in the city council supported the decision, with nearly all groups agreeing that shop owners can decide their own opening hours.
Christen Unie (Christian Union), the SP, and the CDA opposed the ruling, fearing that small businesses will suffer as larger shops can more easily afford the extra staff for Sundays and holidays.
