Last week Helmond was marked by innovative, cleaner and more comfortable traffic. Companies, governments and research institutions came to town for the Automotive Week.
According to project manager Gert Blom, the week was a success with 1,500 visitors. "During this week we have the automotive world and the world of innovative mobility acquainted with each other."
Minister Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and Environment, Mayor of Helmond Elly Blanksma and the Belgian Federal Minister for Mobility, Jacqueline Galant, opened the week.
During the week there were seminars, workshops, lectures but also demonstrations on the N270. There was the EcoTwin demonstration involving two trucks doing ‘cooperative driving’. The trucks can communicate with each other without the help of truck drivers. Thus costs can be saved, and traffic jams are reduced.
Another highlight of the week was the profit of the Driven Award, an award for clean and safe mobility. The students of the Solar Team Eindhoven won with their family car on solar energy called Stella. Besides the Driven Award, they also won the audience award.
Blom looks back with satisfaction on this edition of the Automotive Week and remarked, along with their partners, they eagerly look forward to the 2017 edition.
