The costs for the renovation of the TU/e ‘Hoofdgebouw’ (Main Building) have been budgeted at 75 million euros. Renovation of Gemini Noord and Zuid, the home of Mechanical Engineering, has been postponed for three years, until 2021. Above information was published in the progress report concerning housing plan Campus 2020.
In November 2014, this new way of reporting about the housing plan was already presented to the Supervisory Council, and last week the memo was discussed at the University Council meeting for the first time. The report has been put together by DH, and will be updated twice a year to provide insight into the building project’s progress and the costs involved.
According to the November 2014 financial report, the budget for the Hoofdgebouw renovation is set at 75 million euros. Demolition and asbestos removal started earlier this year, and the renovation is scheduled for completion by late 2018.
The construction of Flux, the building Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering moved into earlier this year, set the university back almost 60 million euros. In the preliminary phase of the project N-laag needed to be demolished, which cost another 3 million euros.
Renovation of Gemini Noord and Zuid was scheduled for 2018, but has now been postponed by three years. Expected costs: approximately 40 million euros. According to Barend Pelgrim, spokesperson for the board, postponing the renovation of Gemini constitutes part of the decision to go ahead and start on the Hoofdgebouw renovation. It will also provide some slack as far as the TU/e housing standard is concerned, he adds.
