Last Thursday in Nuenen, at Nune Ville, a couple of hundred specially cultivated Van Gogh tulip bulbs were planted. They were placed in the ground by Mr. Houben, Mayor of Nuenen, Mr. Siemerink, Director of Keukenhof, Mr. Lemkes, Chairman of Van Gogh Village Nuenen and Mr. Van den Eijnden, Director of Van Gogh Brabant and Chairman of Van Gogh Europe.
Running up to the Vincent van Gogh Year 2015, in which 30 European institutions collaborate, the planting of the tulip is one of the numerous events taking place.
The dark red, almost black, fringed tulip was cultivated by one grower only. Keukenhof is empowering the cooperation with the Van Gogh heritage locations and museums by providing the special tulips. Only one or two times a year Keukenhof bulbs are planted outside Keukenhof.
They were planted in the front garden of Nune Ville, the house of the love of Vincent Van Gogh, Margot Begemann, on a stormy autumn day. "The planting in this romantic location complements the new ‘Vincent Affair’. A project taking place in Nune Ville where people who have artistic aspirations and feel an affinity with Vincent have the opportunity to decorate a room in a creative and inspiring way. This needs to be done in the same spirit as Vincent: romantic, poetic but still stubborn", as Jan Kees Lemkes explains. This pop-up will take place from one April to one October 2015.
In spring the bulbs should flourish in the garden of a house in main street Nuenen.
