An unexpected success has been reported for the new EUV ASML machines. A customer who is already working with the new machines has reported a production of 637 wafers in 24 hours. That is much more than the expected number of 500.
The EUV-machines operate with ultraviolet light. This makes it possible to work more quickly and to make extremely detailed chips. The technique is still in development.
ASML is happy with the unexpected success, but warns that this involves just one event. This level of production must now be repeated and maintained.
