Queen Máxima and minister Jet Bussemaker (emancipation) visited the Brainport Region Eindhoven on Monday 23 June.
Female financial independence was the central theme. During the visit, Bussemaker made arrangements with various companies from Brabant, including Philips, Rabobank and the Institution for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (IMK), to have more female talent in the workplace in the future.
In the year 2014, less than half of Dutch women is economically independent. This does not only make women unnecessarily vulnerable, society also does not profit from their talents in the workplace. With her visits to our region, the minister wants to increase awareness about the consequences of financial dependency. She will talk to residents, local employers and administrators to agree upon how to make better use of female talent in the workplace and how to get more women to be financially independent.
Bussemaker recently agreed with several companies from Limburg, that they should make an effort to make better use of female talent in their region. During the Brabant edition ‘female entrepreneurship’ was the central theme. Bussemaker started her visit in Tilburg by launching a digital learning environment for unemployed women to help increase their language skills. This was followed by a visit to the Brainport Region Eindhoven.
At Philips’ headoffice she talked to female employees about their experiences when it comes to dividing their time between work and care. She also visited the Lighting and Healthcare laboratories.
After that, together with queen Máxima the minister sat down with women in the Lichttoren of Eindhoven, to discuss the financial independence theme, the role that they can play themselves in this matter and what is needed from their employers.
