Almost two million Euros traced in benefit fraud

Due to extra checks and awareness, the municipality of Eindhoven has traced almost two million Euros related to Supplementary Benefit fraud.

The embezzlement involves 512 cases. The municipality recovered all unduly paid benefits and imposed fines.

In most cases incorrect information about income was given, as well as incorrect information about housing.

In December, the municipality claimed almost 200,000 Euros from six residents. It seems they earned money with an illegal cannabis nursery. This was discovered due to tips given by the police to the municipality’s criminal investigation department.

A few years ago, the municipality already announced they would check much more thoroughly in order to discover possible fraud. "Everyone who is eligible can apply for Supplementary Benefit payments", says alderwoman Monique List. "However, please be aware that we check thoroughly for supplementary benefit fraud and embezzlers are punished accordingly."
