Dr Rudi Roumen, a surgeon at the Máxima Medical Centre, has received a gold medal from the Dutch Society of Surgery. A special recognition because, since 1975, this honour has only been awarded 25 times.
Roumen received the medal for his scientific achievements in the field of breast cancer surgery, ACNES syndrome, and groin pain. Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome or ACNES is a nerve entrapment condition that causes chronic pain of the abdominal wall.
The Dutch Society of Surgery awards the gold medal to members who have been of national or international importance for the development of Dutch surgery.
