ASML’s Martin van den Brink received the IMEC Lifetime of Innovation Award 2019 on Tuesday.
IMEC (Interuniversity Micro Electronics Centre) is the largest independent European research centre in the field of microelectronics. With this award, the centre recognises the Veldhoven chip machine manufacturer’s technological head’s personal contribution to the realisation of computer chips. “He is a key figure in ASML’s success story.”
Van den Brink has worked at ASML since the company started. “ASML has been working on the development of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, with which even smaller chip structures can be made, for more than 20 years,” Luc van den Hove, IMEC’s General Director and CEO, says.
Challenges
“The road was littered with challenges. However, thanks to Van den Brink’s long-term vision and his ‘never-give-up’ mentality, the first chips with EUV-printed structures go into production this year.”
ASML also celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, just like IMEC. “We started together, we have been working together intensively for many years, and together, we have become great,” says Luc.
The award will officially be presented of the award will take place during the 2019 IMEC Technology Forum Belgium.
