Eindhoven intends to work more closely with seven neighboring councils with regards to community & living, jobs & careers. The majority of the city council is in favor of these plans.
The plans cover the next 20 year period and include cooperation with Nuenen, Geldrop, Son en Breugel and Veldhoven. Oirschot and Valkenswaard have also indicated that they are interested in participating in a new regional urban covenant.Some councilors are concerned about the democratic level of cooperation. They feel that not only councilors, but elected politicians should be involved in decision making. There are many thinking about new forms of council cooperation in the Eindhoven region. This is a result of Dutch cabinet plans to dismantle the SRE, a partnership of the 21 councils represented in South East Brabant.
