Ryanair wants staff to be fired

The low-cost airline, Ryanair, has applied for dismissal for its personnel stationed in Eindhoven.

The poor economic performance is the reason for the proposed dismissals.

The trade union for pilots, the Vereniging Nederlandse Verkeersvliegers (Association of Dutch commercial pilots) or VNV, says it is not surprised by the decision. Ryanair previously announced that staff that opposed the closure of the base at Eindhoven Airport would be phased out.

The Trade Union, however, is surprised that the UWV (Employee Insurance Agency) is considering the request for dismissal. The disappointing economic performance is not backed up by figures, according to the VNV.

In addition, a judge previously determined that there were no proper grounds for closing the base at Eindhoven Airport and that Ryanair’s employees had to receive their wages.
