It was a special day on 16 November for Eindhoven. The world-renowned Yogi, Swami Jyothirmayah, was in the city and gave a two-hour free yoga workshop – Yogathon.

The event took place in the Evoluon. It was a great evening where fun merged with deep relaxation, an evening of doing Yoga together and meditating, and getting acquainted with the true essence of Yoga.

According to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder of The Art of Living, “Yoga is not just a weight-loss programme; it is a science that makes you feel lighter. You lose mental stuff like anger, jealousy, hatred, greed, etc. The purpose of yoga is to stop suffering even before it arises.”

The Yogathon was well-attended

Swami Jyothirmayah has travelled the world for years to make people aware of the beneficial and soothing effect of yoga on body and mind. It has always been his aim to bring easy yoga to everyone, where one could practice it with pleasure.

Life is joy, enthusiasm, and love

The evening started with a short introduction to Yoga by the Swami himself. He has more than 20 years of experience in teaching the Happiness Program conducted by the Art of Living. According to him, Yoga makes one realise that ‘Life is joy, Life is enthusiasm and life is Love.’ The introduction was followed by a meditation session and ended with a Q&A.

The Happiness Program is a combination of knowledge, interactive games, yoga, meditation, and the powerful breathing technique called Sudarshan Kriya. For those who are interested in this programme, you can visit him in Amsterdam where he will be teaching this programme from the 7-9 December. More information is to be found at www.artofliving.org

This meditation and yoga session was attended by people from different countries other than India and the Netherlands. The visitors took part in the sessions given by the Swami. There was also a post-event survey done which emphasised that the participants felt inspired and calmer after the yoga session.
