The expansion of the A58 between Eindhoven and Tilburg will be delayed significantly, according to documents seen by the House of Representatives.
The documents, sent to the House by Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora Van Nieuwenhuizen, show that the project will take up to 3 years longer than previously thought.
The government had originally said work would begin without delay in 2021. It now says delays are unavoidable due to nitrogen emissions from construction work.
A recent measure implemented to reduce emissions by reducing the maximum speed on the road to 100km/h has not sufficiently compensated for this.
The aim of the expansion is to combat regular traffic jams between Eindhoven and Tilburg.
