Jos van Bree has been nominated as the new mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo.

A City Council committee considers the Van Bree, who is the current Councillor for Finance and Economy in Helmond, to be the most suitable candidate. A total of 23 candidates had applied. The 50-year-old Van Bree is expected to start working in Geldrop-Mierlo at the end of November.

Van Bree has been a Councillor in Helmond since 2015. Before that, he was a Manager in Heeze-Leende.

Geldrop-Mierlo has been looking for a new mayor for quite some time now after Berry Link stepped down. He left when he came under attack because of a possible secret relationship with a civil servant. Desirée Schmalschläger was recruited as interim mayor but left after two months. Until a new mayor is active, Marc Jeucken takes care of the task.
