SCE no longer decides who gets how much cultural grant

The Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven (Eindhoven Cultural Foundation) or SCE may no longer determine which cultural initiatives get subsidies. The Foundation’s Supervisory Board has therefore resigned.

The Eindhoven Municipality is taking over this function from the Foundation. This, while the foundation was established to distribute cultural grants in the city. The Municipality did this because a judge determined that foundations are not authorised to hand out subsidies. Only the City Council is allowed to do so.

A mandate construction has been chosen. In short, the Municipality now decides which cultural initiatives in the city get grants, and the SCE implements these decisions. The Supervisory Board can still make decisions regarding the Snelgeldfonds (Quick Money Fund).

The Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board collectively resigned following the City Council’s decision. “A lot of the work that was done in recent years is being nullified”, the Supervisory Board writes in response. In addition, there is an objection to the role the Supervisory Board would get via the mandate construction because it would become a kind of City Council extension.
