Local politician to leave

Groenlinks Councillor, Jan van der Meer, is leaving the Eindhoven City Council.

He is the candidate-representative in the Gelderland province. In all likelihood, he will take up his position there on 5 June. Until then, Van der Meer will remain active in Eindhoven. He is the Climate and Energy Councillor in the city.

“GroenLinks is a growing party, with more and more administrative functions in municipalities and provinces,” writes Van der Meer in his letter of resignation. This means staff shuffling is sometimes unavoidable. He was asked by Groenlinks Gelderland to help out. He has management experience and a vast provincial network, thanks to his previous position as a councillor in Nijmegen.

The Eindhoven City Council thanked Van der Meer for his contribution to Eindhoven’s energy transition. In a press release, the Council stated that they hope his successor also tackles important issues. These include issues such as heat strategy and the realisation of the post-separation plant and fermenter at Cure.

GroenLinks has nominated Rik Thijs as Van der Meer’s successor. The Council will decide on his appointment on 11 June.
