TU Eindhoven students have built an autonomous racing car. The car has already been tested and can reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour in just over two seconds.

According to the student team of University Racing Eindhoven (URE), it is the first self-propelled race car in the Benelux. With the development, the builders want to take a major step towards their goal of surpassing the best human driver.

“The car’s system, including sensors, is already working. It is only not yet fully robust. That’s a matter of testing and fine-tuning”, the students write.

The students stress that human error is the number one cause of accidents on public roads. The URE team thinks that self-driving cars will be much safer.
