An astonishing number of 87 participants are preparing to take the International Chinese exam of the Confucius Institute Groningen in Eindhoven. The official exam take place next Sunday.
This will be the second time these official exams are offered in Eindhoven. Twenty-four students of Eindhoven’s Stedelijk College (SCE) are among the participants. The official exams can be taken at four different levels.
The SCE is a secondary school college situated along the Henegouwenlaan. It has offered Chinese lessons for quite a while now. Ever since 2008, a module on Chinese has been part of various subjects students may choose.
Since 2014, Chinese has been taught as an extra subject. The SCE has an official Confucius Classroom since 2017. This means the school receives support from the Chinese government to promote the education in the Chinese language(s) and culture. At the moment, about sixty students study Chinese language(s) and culture and their number continuous to increase.
China is an important player in the Brainport region. Many companies have branches or delegations in China. More and more Chinese companies are also coming to the Netherlands. The number of Chinese tourists visiting the Netherlands is also increasing.
Internationalization is an important focus of the Stedelijk College Eindhoven. It is an important part of the educational curriculum. International activities within the school cover a large number of subjects and themes.
An example is the exchange-program the Stedelijk College organizes with schools from all over the world. These include schools in Nanjing and Beijing, in China. The SCE also offers international projects and intern-ships abroad. In the coming years, the Chinese course will be expanded further.
Next week, the exams take place between 09.30 and 15.30.
