The World Press Photo 2018 exhibition will be held again this year at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
The exhibition shows the winners of the 2018 World Press Contest, an annual photography contest in which the best journalistic photo is chosen. The competition is known as the most prestigious competition for professional photographers, photojournalists and documentary makers.
In total, over 70,000 images were submitted this year by more than 4,500 photographers from all over the world. The jury will select one photo from this, which will be titled World Press Photo of the Year.
Winner
This year the winner was the photo of Mexican photographer Ronaldo Schemidts, who took the photo called ‘Venezuela Crisis’. In the photo, you can see Jose Víctor Salasar Balza (28) running while on fire during the violent confrontations with the riot police during a protest against President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela. Balza survived the incident with first and second-degree burns.
The exhibition can be viewed free of charge from 12 September to 4 October in the Vertigo building on the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology.
