On Tuesday evening, Photonics was the central theme at the Science Café of the Van Piere bookshop in Eindhoven.
A lecture about technology and science, this time about the ‘Photonic chip’, was given. TU/e-professors, Ton Backx and Meint Smit, discussed the chip. They think its development will lead to a revolution.
Light
Currently, most chips work on electricity. Data is sent by transmitting electrical currents. With these photonic chips, the data is transmitted via light. That is much faster than electricity.
Self-driving cars and other technical ingenuity are all possible thanks to this technique.
