Waving and stomping, Frankie and Frits are in front of the television. They are in a motion device. A game is played on the TV. Car tires are pumped up with a pressing foot movement and windows are cleaned by waving arms.
A motion device in the context of the REACH 2020 project. This is a European project in which, among others, ZuidZorg, TU/e and Philips work together to innovate in elderly care. A machine that helps elderly people exercise and brings back the ‘funfactor’.
The elderly who experienced the device are excitedly enthusiastic. “I like to be active like that. Normally my grandchildren are playing videogames and now I’m actively participatingy.”
The motion device is now entering a semi-annual test phase. For the occasion, it was placed at the Ontmoet en Groetplein (Meet and Greet Square) ZuidZorg at the Kastelenplein in Eindhoven. After six months, the results are reviewed. Ultimately, these kinds of innovations should be more than an exception to allow older people to live independently at home.
