High Tech Campus gets a bitcoin ATM

From 8th of May, a new “Bitcoin ATM” will be available for transactions at the High Tech Campus (HTC) of Eindhoven.

Anyone with a smartphone can directly buy and sell Bitcoins. The “crypto currency” Ethereum, usings “ether” as currency, will also be available through the machine in two months. The bitcoin banking machine will be used as a testbench for any future currency based on Blockchain technology. Blockchain makes possible to do financial transactions without the intervention of a central bank.

According to Herman Vissia, director of Byelex, the company implementing the ATM, this is a unique oportunity to get acquainted with Bitcoin and Ethereum. HTC provides an ideal location, “where the global innovations of the future  are devised and shaped”. Hilde de Vocht, marketing manager of HTC, mentioned that the campus is a living lab where members of the community come into contact with the latest technology. The arrival of the Bitcoin ATM  fits  well with this mindset.

The  Bitcoin ATM, which is located in The Strip (HTC 1, first floor, aboce Grand Cafe the Color Kitchen)  will be revealed after the Campus New Technology Seminar. During the seminar,  speakers from Byelex, PwC and  TNO will provide additional insight on Bitcoin and Blockchain technology. The event is fully booked.
