Taking water from streams and ditches has been prohibited since Saturday, 30th of May. Waterschap De Dommel (water authority) has declared the measure because of the dry weather of recent weeks. The ban applies mainly to the rural west of Eindhoven and Veldhoven.
However, the prohibition does not apply on the other side of the region where the river flows through the Upper Dommel, Keersop and Tongelreep. This is because there has been more rainfall in these locations rather than in the west of Eindhoven and Veldhoven.
A ban on the removal of water is intended to prevent too little water in the streams and ditches. This could lead to serious consequences in the quality of water.
