It was an emotional meeting last night when alderman Bianca Kaathoven was in conversation with different ice sport associations (ijsverenigingen) of the ‘IJsbaan’ (ice rink). She gave explanations about the intention to close the rink.
"There were a lot of emotions," said the alderman afterwards, "also a lot of questions. On why this decision was made, and why now. I understand this is an important discussion and we will continue discussions."
The final decision has not yet been made. There will be a public consultation meeting in the town hall, and a closed council meeting about the fate of the rink.
Alderman van Kaathoven can expect some resistance, according to Ferry van den Broek, leader of the VVD. "I can firmly tell the alderman that they’d better have a good story ready."
