“Zie ginds komt de stoomboot (Look, the steamboat is coming)!” Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas), the patron saint of all children and the main figure of the Dutch holiday season, is on his way to Eindhoven again. Tomorrow his boat will be docking at the Kanaaldijk-Noord.
Mayor Rob van Gijzel will be awaiting Sinterklaas and his "Pieten" (Peters) there. Obviously, this is exceptional, but Sinterklaas is especially looking forward to seeing the Eindhoven children, he said on Studio040 radio this morning.
"Of course, I am honoured to meet the mayor, but I hope there will be many children to welcome us as well," Sinterklaas said. According to this good and holy man, his boat is nearing Eindhoven quickly: "I can already see the land, when I look out of the window. The Pieten do their utmost to arrive in Eindhoven on time! "
At 11:30 the festive programme starts at the Kanaaldijk-Noord. The steamboat is expected to arrive at around a quarter past twelve. Sinterklaas will then mount his horse for the parade to the city centre. On the 18 Septemberplein there will be a big party with singing K3 Peters, a free "Peter" train and, of course, the customary candy and sweets.
