According to a report featured in the technical magazine Bits & Chips, ASML is looking to set up a top institute for scientific research. The chip manufacturer will join forces with the universities in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Aachen (Germany).
The institute will focus on specialist research, on subjects such as nanotechnology. The institute will have its own building, own professors and around one hundred PhD students. Discussions on precise details are currently being held. ASML will cover half of the costs and universities and government bodies will cover the rest. Bits & Chips stated its source was from the academic world. ASML declines to confirm the validity of these plans.
