Hi there! My name is Senne de Ruiter, born and raised in Eindhoven, and I have been responsible for the event page of Eindhoven News for some time now. Looking for ways to be more involved with Eindhoven news I started thinking about articles I would like to write and read. It didn’t take me long to figure it out. I love going out for drinks and/or dinner and I love reading about new places that are opening and restaurant reviews. So I thought ”why not write about all the cool places you can go to for drinks and dinner in Eindhoven?” So that’s what I’m going to do, starting with a place that isn’t well known but deserves to be. Looking for a cheap place to eat? Look no further! Hidden at the Hertogstraat 2, ‘’Burgers’’ offers a three-course meal for only 5,50. Really? Yeah, really!
Open on Mondays and Fridays Burgers offers a vegetarian menu. It’s always vegetarian and sometimes vegan. It consists of soup, main course and a dessert. You can get the whole menu for 5,50 but if you’re not a big eater you can order just the main course for 3,50 (soup and dessert are both 1 euro). It’s a fixed menu so you don’t have a whole list to choose from but it’s always fresh, healthy, creative and made with love. Also, don’t be confused by the name, they don’t actually serve (ham)burgers. Burgers is the Dutch word for citizens and refers to the social background of the building. Everyone who works there works voluntarily and Burgers also offers cheap housing and workspaces for creative people. Not only is the food cheap, you can get a beer or a glass of wine for 1,50. Special beers are around 2,25 and a glass of biological juice is 1,00. Coffee and tea are only 0,50.
Burgers is a really social and friendly place where all kinds of people are coming, which is also the charm of it.Truly everyone is welcome here and the atmosphere is more that of a big family living room than that of a restaurant.
Burgers is usually pretty mellow on Mondays but on Fridays it can get really busy so they work with a reservation list (this way they can estimate how much food to make so they don’t waste too much). You can call to 06-10597294 to make a reservation. Dinner is served from 18:00 till 20:30 and after that the bar is still open for drinks.
Not only is Burgers a great place to eat for less, they also host shows from all types of bands, there is a little biological supermarket and on Fridays the record shop is open where one of the founders of Burgers, Hans, sells and plays records (really the cheapest place in Eindhoven to get your vinyl so if you’re a big music fan you should definitely check this shop out).
So if you’re looking for some great value for your money while also having the real ‘’going out for dinner’’ experience Burgers really is the place to be. I don’t think there is a more sympathetic place to eat in Eindhoven.
