Students in Eindhoven pay too much rent

Students in Eindhoven pay on average too much for their accommodation. This according to the national student union (Landelijke Studentenvakbond), who conducted a survey to find out the average cost of accommodation in the different regions in the Netherlands.

Based on the survey, an estimated sixty percent of students in Eindhoven pay too much for their accommodation. There is a legally set point system which stipulates the maximum house and room rent prices and a lot of students pay far more than the maximum amount set.

The point system which attributes points based on size of room as well as facilities and whether these are shared can be found on the website of the Huurcommissie (rent tribunal), which offers renters an opportunity to have their rent reviewed by an independent legal body.

According to the study undertaken by the student union, students in Eindhoven pay on average 282.16 euros for a room. The national average is a bit higher at 323 euros.
