The consortium of Philips Nederland B.V./Heijmans Wegen B.V. is the proposed contractual partner to use Eindhoven as a pilot area in coming years, for the development of intelligent lighting applications in the public space.
That is the provisional result of Eindhoven Municipal Council’s European tendering procedure. Efforts will be made in the coming months to reach an agreement. Philips/Heijmans will subsequently be able to start work, together with partners, from 2016, on the further development of Eindhoven as a Smart City in the Brainport Region Eindhoven.
The tendering procedure was based on the ‘Vision and Roadmap Urban Lighting Eindhoven 2030’. The municipality has a clear goal: to use lighting in the public space in such an innovative way that it contributes to improving the quality of life in the city.
The initial contract to be entered into between the municipality and the proposed contractual partner will be valid for a period of five years, in a number of selected areas, with the option of extending to 2030 (to include innovative lighting developments in the rest of the city).
Philips/Heijmans has indicated their intention to begin in five areas, for the first phase of the implementation of the Roadmap (till end 2020): the traffic route John F. Kennedylaan-Eisenhowerlaan, the traffic route Ring and the residential areas of Gijzenrooi, Schrijversbuurt and Woenselse Heide (West).
