North Brabant’s Executive of Economic Affairs, Bert Pauli, opened a unique laboratory today on the Campus that was specially-built for Solliance. The new building includes an infrastructure for pilot production of thin-film PV (photovoltaic) solar cells.
Solliance is a cross-border cooperation between six research institutes (ECN, TNO, TU Eindhoven, Holst Centre, imec and Forschungszentrum Jülich) that have joined forces in the field of thin-film solar cells.
"The timing is just right for an initiative like this" says Willems, Director of Solliance. "We live in an extremely dynamic, global market worth billions. It is also high competitive. If you’re a manufacturer of solar panels, or any of the other technologies that are connected with this industry, you have to be two years ahead of everyone or you will simply disappear".
Matching the relevant technology to the right business model at just the right time has quickly turned into extremely useful knowledge to have. We know, from experience, that everything is going to be a lot faster and easier by moving forward together. Research is the life blood of this industry. And it is also the oxygen for commerce.
