Lars Willighagen from Eindhoven has won a gold medal at the 30th Biology Olympiad in Hungary.
The eighteen-year-old student from Eckart College has finished in the top twenty-five and received a gold medal for this. Two hundred eighty-nine students from seventy-three countries took part in the Biology Olympiad.
From the 14th to the 21st of July they had to prove themselves as ‘future scientists’ by doing various experiments and making theory tests on biology. The Dutch team, led by Roel Baars, has done this as the best of all European countries. They have won three gold medals and a silver medal. Only ten percent of the participants can receive a gold medal.
Selection
Lars Willighagen and his teammates could only participate in the Biology Olympiad based on selection. They have been selected from ten thousand other students.
