Social media call to join mosque protest against Pegida

Flowers have been placed at the Al Fourqaan mosque after calls on social media to show solidarity with Muslims and protest against anti-Islam organisation Pegida.

A Facebook post invitation encouraged locals to place the flowers following Pegida’s announcement of a planned demonstration on Monday 6 May, the beginning of Ramadan.

“Let us support the mosque visitors together. Take a pretty flower or some chalk as a show of support for our Muslim fellow citizen”, the invitation says.

The ‘flower protest’ is scheduled for Sunday 5 May from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, the day before Pegida’s demonstration.
