Humpback whale Johanna who washed up at the island Texel last year is processed into engine oil and power in Son.
The skeleton of the whale went to Naturalis in Leiden for research.
The other sixteen thousand pounds of whale meat went to rendering plant Rendac in Son. Besides the oil and power, the remains of Johanna are processed into sixteen hundred litres of fat and four thousand kilos of animal food.
After her death, the whale is producing power for five families for a year. When the humpback whale got stranded, he got the pet name Johannes. But after research after the death of the animal it turned out to be a female. Her name was then changed in to Johanna.
