EINDHOVEN – Thirteen men were sentenced to a total of 47,5 years in prison by the Prosecutor’s Office Monday. They used to work in three different laboratories, in Weert, Oisterwijk and Gastel, producing raw material used in the manufacturing of amphetamine (speed).
The highest sentenced -8 years- was for the fugitive alleged leader of the criminal organisation, Cees S. (45) from Waalre. In de labs, APAAN (alpha- phenylacetoacetonitrile) was turned into BMK (Benzylmethylketon), a substance used in the manufacturing of amphetamine. APAAN is twenty times cheaper than BMK and the latter seems to be easily extracted from the first, states the Prosecutor’s Office on its website. They concluded that the three labs produced enough raw material to manufacture millions of doses. The first time APAAN was discovered to serve as raw material for narcotic drugs was in the Gastel lab in February 2011. “A new trend has been uncovered”, said the prosecutor on Monday.http://eindhoven.dichtbij.nl/112/8-jaar-cel-ge%C3%ABist-cees-s-apaan-zaak
