GILZE-RIJEN – A flying car has made test flights in recent weeks on air base Gilze-Rijen. It appears from images of the creators. A spokesman of the air base confirms the story and says it’s therefore not a 1st of April joke.
A company from Raamsdonksveer has developed the device, the PAL-V. The acronym PAL-V stands for Personal Air and Land Vehicle. Investors have put some six million euros in the project until now.The patented vehicle flies in the air like a gyrocopter, it rises by a self-rotating rotor. The thrust is provided by a foldable propeller at the rear of the vehicle.According to director Robert Dingemanse of PAL-V the flying car is unique worldwide. “Actually it’s a gyrocopter, that’s quite different from a helicopter. It is the safest and easiest to learn way to fly that exists.”Dingemanse is convinced that there is a future for the flying car. “There is absolutely a market. We get a lot more interest than we can handle. In case on the long term, ten or fifteen years, it will be very busy then there will be funding at the European level. Also governments are preparing for the arrival of this type of vehicle. “The first production model should arrive on the market end of 2014.
