Eindhoven disciplinary committee reprimands GP

A doctor has been reprimanded by the regional disciplinary committee in Eindhoven for violating professional confidentiality. According to the ED, the physician sent the medical records of a deceased patient to a notary without permission.

Besides this, he also provided incorrect information about the health of an elderly woman to the Care Assessment Centre. The doctor recommended that the woman receive care for dementia patients with behavioural issues. He has now admitted that he exaggerated the woman’s mental state.

The case came to light when the patient’s children went to court with a request to inspect the finances of their mother because they thought she had dementia and was therefore incapable. The doctor then declared that his patient was well aware of her financial situation and certainly not incapacitated.
