Twice a week sports lessons for Eindhoven and Geldrop seniors. Medisch sportgezondheidscentrum TopSupport (Medical sport health center – Top Support) offers lessons via a webcam, in which seniors from various locality can join at the same time.
Sports coach Tom Lumens assists seniors and sees this as way to get around all the cutbacks in health care sector. He sees many advantages, such as teaching three groups simultaneously. This way the health insurance company does not have to pay to three different coaches but just one.
Additionally, time also plays an important role. Lumens says, "The various care centers are quite far apart. If I have to drive everywhere, it would cost me more time travelling than giving lessons."
The professional guidance of the elderly during exercise is not comprised, according to the sports coach. "I can keep an eye on all the groups on a large screen and I can hear them. If they have questions or they are doing wrong moves then I can correct them instantly.
