Aireywijk Genderdal most sustainable neighborhood

Public housing corporation Woonbedrijf will soon start the renovation of 226 existing homes in the Aireywijk Genderdal district. The homes will be ‘greener’.

All the houses will get their roofs replaced and isolated, to keep the houses cool in summer and warm in the winter.
Earlier this week 14 new houses and 68 new apartments were completed. This social housing project delivered energy neutral homes, and during construction worked with durable wood types and used paints without solvent.

Twelve of the 68 apartments are rented to the Bastide Foundation, an initiative that provides housing to young adults with a disorder in the autistic spectrum.

According to the Woonbedrijf corporation a green environment is important for this neigborhood. There will be a large variety of climbing plants, in the hope that it will attract many birds. There will be rain barrels to collect rainwater, for washing windows and watering the gardens.
